Sometimes I hated when a bunch of chocolate which was supposed to be put by my front door ended up on Zachary Smith's doorstep.
"Isn't this supposed to be sent to you, Jane Parker?"
Zachary was just another neighbor I had back then when I was staying at an apartment building during my colleague years. He lived with the two of his friends, another two guys named Jonah and Kenneth, and a nearly forty years old woman whom I supposed is Zachary's aunt, Juliana Park. Or Auntie Jules as that is how I called her years ago. Auntie Jules was a caring woman, she used to came to my flat, drinking coffee and I talked to her on how stressful my campus life is getting.
Auntie Jules didn't have any children so she chose to babysit her one and only nephew Zachary Smith, who happened to lose his parents since he was five. Then the two of his closest friends, Kenneth and Jonah moved in. Jonah and Kenneth were just as their friend, Zachary Smith. The only difference is that both Kenneth and Jonah didn't annoy me as much as Zachary.
Back at it, I used to order a few blocks of chocolate from a small chocolate store near my flat building in the center of New York. Usually kids from the neighborhood came to my flat unit at four 'till five in the evening for me giving out free hot or cold chocolates every time they had a soccer practice just near our apartment building.
Talking about Zachary, he was rather annoying. Sometimes he would knock on my front door, joining the kids and said the exact same thing every day for two years, he would sit properly with the kids in my living room and said, 'Jane, hot chocolate please'.
Zachary did every thing carelessly, once he stepped on Gravity's bushy tail while carrying a box of Chocolate that kept on being put by his front door every Sunday morning, causing my poor kitty meowed loudly and nearly caused Zachary to drop a precious box of chocolate if only he hadn't step back without knowing that I was standing behind him and later, he ended up falling anyway.
"Jane! Would you ever get rid of this hideous looking hairy rabbit?" Come on, it's a cat Zachary Smith.
Oh, and Zachary did had a girlfriend back then, that girlfriend always changes like nearly every week until I decided to stop memorizing their names and faces. Even aunty Jules don't really give a damn on who Zachary brought home every weekend. The only Zachary's ex girlfriend I knew was Evelyne Ray, she was a ballet dancer who happened to be Zachary's longest term girlfriend of two months.
Zachary is loud for a type of guy, he criticized every thing and sometimes he talked about on how flat the earth is and it was always me who is willing to listen to his irrational thoughts. We tried to figure out why my chocolate orders always ended up on his doorstep. I don't remember giving Zachary's address to the store cashier, Barbara. I do came back to the store to give my actual address instead of Zachary's but still, every Monday Zachary kept on knocking on my front door and fussed about it.
However the four of us, me, Kenneth, Jonah and Zachary enjoyed each others' company. Jonah and I used to sing along when Zachary played the guitar while Kenneth played the piano. You could refer our friendship as bestfriend goals (at least that is what people usually call a friendship like ours). Despite from the chaos we did everyday, we did everything together for about two years until it's finally the time for us to go our separate ways.
And that was how him and I got so close.
"One hot chocolate, please!"
Four years had passed, I graduated college and I still make hot chocolates. Even now I have my own Cafe that sells anything chocolate or cacao based which I built soon after I moved to Manhattan. Thank to my mother in law who gave me the idea of building my own Cafe. If it wasn't for her, then this Cafe would not be here today as every young teenagers' favorite place to gather.
A five year old brunette caught my attention, the kid is running towards the lower counter and smile widely.
"Mommy, hot chocolatte please!"
I couldn't help it. I smiled even wider. I still do make hot chocolates for children, but now I have my own little sunshine who likes hot chocolate as much as his father, Zachary Smith.
