There was a poor girl called Rachel who lived in a small village. Her parents worked hard and would leave the house early in the morning, leaving Rachel alone at home. Rachel didn’t have friends as people always teased her. They teased her because she was poor. At home, Rachel would do the chores. Sometimes she would think if only life was better for her.
One day, her parents couldn’t buy food. So, they asked Rachel to sell their cow. At first, Rachel was mad because the cow was her only companion but after that she realized that it is for the best. She went to the market with her cow but nobody would buy it. The kids there told her to go into the woods. They said that there is a lady who would help her. Rachel went into the woods. Meanwhile, the kids laughed at how she was fooled. In the woods, Rachel met an old lady who she thought was the lady the kids were talking about. The lady asked what the cow is for and she explained. Then, the lady bought the cow. Before Rachel leaves, the lady asked her if she would help get some fruits. Rachel agreed to help her. “The fruits grow on a tree that has blue leaves”, the lady said. Then, Rachel went to get the fruits. After hours of searching, she found a tree with blue leaves and picked the fruits. She returned to the lady and gave her the fruits. “You can have some of the fruits”, the lady said. Rachel took a fruit and ate it. Little did she know that the fruit was poisonous and that the lady was an evil witch. Rachel fainted after eating the fruit and the evil witch took back the money she gave her.
After some time, Rachel woke up. Her head was dizzy and she realized the lady, the cow and the money was gone. “I was only trying to help”, she thought to herself. She didn’t want to go back home as she felt ashamed for not bringing any food nor money. So, she went back to the village. On the way, she fell to some thorns because she was dizzy which made her blind. She couldn’t see and wished so that she can see again. She complained that life isn’t fair. Meanwhile, a lady saw her. She was the good witch. The good witch approached her and introduced herself. “Why should I trust you?”, Rachel asked. “Because I can help you”, the good witch replied. “I will give you back your vision and give you some money but you have to do something for me”, the good witch said. The good witch said Rachel must bring 99 blankets to the good witch’s house on top of the mountain in one month or she will go back to being blind and she won’t have any food. Rachel agreed.
Rachel went back home and explained about her promise to the good witch to her parents. Then, she began making 99 blankets. Her parents who were farmers sheared the sheep for cotton. Rachel worked day and night to make the blankets and finally succeeded. She put the blankets on some carts and went to the mountain.
It was winter. Rachel decided to take a break as she came across some houses. In the houses, she met a lot of people and they didn’t have any blanket. Rachel thought that the witch won’t mind if she gave some to them. So, Rachel gave some of the blankets to them. But she came across more houses with the same condition. So, Rachel gave them some of the blankets again. When she reached the good witch, she only had 3 blankets left. She cried as she couldn’t fulfill her promise. The good witch smiled and gave her food and money. The good witch explained that the blankets were meant for the people and the 3 remaining were meant for Rachel and her parents. The good witch also thanked her as the cow she gave to the witch wasn’t in a good condition and when the evil witch ate the cow, she died of food poisoning. Rachel thanked the good witch and returned. Her family became wealthy. But Rachel decided to donate some of her wealth to the kids who fooled her because they weren’t at a good condition and Rachel knew how it felt to be poor. Rachel also donated some money for blind people as she realized that it wasn’t easy for them. Rachel realized that God has his own plans and that she should be grateful of what she has and keep doing good deeds. She also learned to be more positive as things may not actually be as bad as it seems.
