To You, in 100 Years
I’m Al-Ex. I come from year 2118.
This is not a tale. It’s real. And there’s nothing we can do about it.
Nothing. So just read this, get yourself prepared.
We’re still living on the same planet, Earth. But it has gone through some modifications, with some side effects. Blame it on the scientists and the rulers.
The electricity is still good, in fact, better. Everybody still uses internet, and it’s free for everybody in the world. What I mean is, you don’t need to look for signal even in remote islands to use internet. Cancer and HIV/AIDS are curable. We even have the medicine for Ebola. You can find some modified dogs or cats easily, because the real breathing dogs and cats are already extincted. Not just them, some of animals go extincting too.
You can hardly find trees or any kind of plants along the road. No more cars or motorcycles. Malls and schools are abandoned. Unfortunately, it’s impossible to find people around.
Do you know where the people go, till you hardly find them around?
Brix Corporation is one of the technological companies which builds houses, more exactly, a futuristic residence. The residence is called Cpox-16. The residence is full of houses with white walls, same model, and same condition.
When you walk into the house, you will find out that the house has no rooms.
But it has a couch and a TV.
And a teleportation port.
This what makes Brix Corporation is one of the most successful technological companies in the world, at my era. A-Dex Port, a teleportation port which can take you anywhere in this place in the world. You just need to get in to the capsule, and tell your destination. It will take you there.
The port is taking you to the station which is placed near the famous places. It’s a very big station, consisting of thousands of teleportation ports that can be used by thousands of people. People use this teleportation port so they don’t have to waste their time on the road, and it’s surely fuel-saving.
However, not everyone can use the port in the station. Only registered people can, and to register, you will have to pay for renting it each week.
They can use Lit 9, a transportation device that can take you directly to your destination. You can only find it at the port station, and again you have to pay for it. Not like the A-Dex Port, you can find it easily around the station, so you don’t have to register first.
You must be wondering why the companies (in this case: Brix Corporation), producing some kind of residence, with a teleportation port in it, instead of only producing Lit 9?
Just remember that even though we’re friends with robots and gadgets, we’re still human, with business to do and money on the mind.
That’s the first reason why it’s hard to find them around.
The second one comes from the working world.
Mostly, easy jobs are held by robots or machines, so there are a lot of people with no jobs. Mostly they live on the east side of the world, and it’s called Old Folk. The east side of the world is placed for people with no jobs. Although they have no jobs they can still have free gadgets from the government so that they can still communicate with people on the west side of the world.
What about the south side of the world? And the north side? Well, it’s a dumping place for infected robots and gadgets. Both of them. Infected robots and gadgets are extremely harmful for people and other gadgets because it will ruin the whole system of the world. That’s why they’re placed there. Some of them will be destroyed, especially those which get infected by virus CM 101. It’s an extremely harmful virus that can make them do crazy things. And it makes them have feelings. Like humans.
Back to the jobs thing. Some jobs are still held by humans. People who have good jobs (such as: lawyers, chemists, accountants, or ministers) can live in the west side of the world because they get monthly salaries, and the minimum monthly salaries of those jobs is enough to buy a house at Cpox-16 (well, the not the best ones with expensive prices).
If they can buy a house at Cpox-16, then it means they can get the facilities, including the teleportation port and the port at the station.
I bet you get what I mean.
The last reason is the internet.
Everybody lives in the virtual world. Most of the famous social medias (such as Whatsapp, Twitter, and Instagram) have improved and they will take you to a new level of it. You can have a video call with other humans with 3D version of Whatsapp. The Twitter eases you so you can tweet with your voice and your followers can hear it every time they scroll the screen. You can buy things through Amazon.com and when you pick it and finish the transaction, the things you buy will be teleportated directly to you. Instagram even allows its users to (blank idea)
They have everything they need and want in the back of their hands. What do you expect?
It’s a great development, knowing that people can create a world of their own, differs from the old one. It’s a big proof that human brain can be so genius to invent some things which enable us to do our jobs and chores easily, and more effective. I won’t deny anything about it.
But for everything we do, we will have consequences.
I don’t know what they do, but they extinct us slowly. I see no more trees standing tall along the road. I see dogs with black eyes and they can’t even stop smiling. The laughs of real human children are rare to find. Well, I’m not even sure if people have children in 2116.
That’s why I decide to do it.
I’ve known someone in the virtual world, in a website called Commitnow.com. He’s someone from the east side of the world. His name’s Austin. We have same thoughts and purposes, and we’ve decided to do it.
So here we are. After hours and hours thinking about what we’re going to do, we’ve decided it.
“Are you sure about this?” he asked.
“100% sure.”
I don’t know what’s expecting us. Will we have an afterlife? Will we incarnate? Will we reach heaven? We don’t know anything for sure. We don’t.
None of the things in the world, can ever answer that. Not humans, not robots.
Not me. Not Austin. Not us.
“On three.”
We take a deep breath and hold hands.
“One…”
We’re leaving this world. Together. Nothing, no one can stop us. Not even the laws, the rulers, the robots, God.
“Two…”
We’re leaving this cruel world. This pain, this loneliness, this emptiness. Forever. If God is really there, then He’s supposed to be understood, that we have the right to destroy ourselves. And that’s for killing the pain. Because we’re suffering.
“Three…”
There, there. We jump. I infect the sea with the virus. Will it be okay?
I don’t care about anything anymore. Goodbye.
